While Devin and I were traveling through Turkey for wedding/honeymoon #12 (they just keep getting better!), I heard that Bill Murray had an opinion about the role of travel in producing a happy marriage.
I found the quote as soon as we got home, from a speech he gave at a bachelor party on 5-27-14 (4 days after Devin and I married the first time):
Marriage Advice from Bill Murray:
“If you have someone that you think is the one … don’t just think let’s plan this and make a party and get married. Take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And … when you land at JFK and you’re still in love with that person, get married.”
Pretty brilliant, huh?
I guess Devin and I jumped the gun on getting married AFTER the year of travel. Oh well. Fortunately we have 88 more weddings and a ton of travel to go…
But seriously, there’s something great about working out problems as a team, even when you’re lost, tired, hungry, cold, and cranky. 🙂

PS. Now I totally want Bill Murray to marry us!
I’m so happy for both of you Morgana. Please come to London for one of your weddings and I will cook, the secret ingredient to all my recipes is love.
We will! We considered coming this trip, and then we decided Britain needs a separate trip of its own. 🙂
