VENUES: Whether it is casual or formal, intimate or grand, indoors or out, the island of paradise is the ideal wedding destination. There are seven venues at the Westin St. Maarten that accommodate and welcome 10 to 1,000 people in the 10,000 square foot banquet and meeting space, and an additional 10,000 square feet of outdoor space. The largest ballroom is able to break into five sections for greater flexibility and more convenience. Two additional freestanding rooms each offer 1,088 square feet of elegant space that can accommodate 10 to 120 people. For a true beachside romance, outside venues offer a tranquil ocean breeze for receptions or dinner functions for up to 1,000 guests. Celebrating a wedding around the beautiful outdoor pool or landscaped courtyard is also possible. If you decide to go indoors, the enchanting ballrooms will dazzle guests with their majestic, yet chic decor and adjoining terrace. Included with each venue is a wedding coordinator that is attuned to every bride’s needs, enhancing the ease of planning a destination wedding. THE LICENSE: Because you would need to spend a month in St Martin to get married, most couples choose to get married on the Dutch side of the island in St Maarten. Here are the requirements for St Maarten: Marry Me
Couples planning to get married on St. Maarten must be at least 21 years old (without parental consent) and must request a temporary tourist permit from the Lieutenant Governor. (The permit may not exceed three months). The couple must also submit birth certificates, valid return tickets to their country of origin or another destination outside the Netherlands Antilles. Divorced persons may remarry in St. Maarten but should provide appropriate papers indicating a valid divorce certificate. (Divorced women may remarry after 306 days have passed.)
It can take up to two months to receive a reply, and the bride and groom need to be on island two days before the ceremony. If permission is granted a temporary tourist permit will be issued in order to contract a marriage. Once the request has been approved, there is a 14-day waiting period before the ceremony can be performed.
Registration at the office of Civil Registry needs to take place at least ten days before the marriage.
Original documents other than Dutch or English need to be translated into the Dutch language (i.e. a French or Spanish document must be translated into Dutch, not English).
The cost for marriage licenses is US$275.55 and includes civil ceremony, marriage books, stamps and certificate.
