One of the coolest tools available online is Google Alerts. The service will send you an email whenever something on the web containing specific words pops up. “Wedding officiant” is one of my alerts. And that’s how I discovered Sophisticated Celebrations, a notary and wedding ceremony service in Florida with excellent information about getting a marriage license in Florida, like how much the license costs ($93.50) and other important details.
Here’s an interesting, perhaps puzzling, item: If you live in Florida, you have to wait three days after applying before the clerk will sell you a marriage license. But if you live out of state, no waiting period is required.
What the heck??!! So you pay taxes to the state but have to wait while these outsiders don’t? I don’t get it. I would love to hear from anyone with an explanation.
